Anthony Reebop Kwaku Baah: Melodies In A Jungle Mans Head (1997)

Selected discography:
CD / Day Eight / DEM 021 / Sweden
See the Grech and Baah discography page.

Tracks:
  • "Melodies In A Jungle Mans Head (Part 1&2)"
  • "Bombodown"
  • "Hotline Breadline Boogie"
  • "Sometimes I Feel"
  • "Payapam"
  • "Flodel"
  • "Melodies In A Jungle Mans Head (Part 3)"

Steve's role: There are no musician credits, but Steve has personally communicated that he performed on this album (many thanks to Steve Winwood, 10/2002).

Background (from Netbeat, http://www.netbeat.com, 5/1997): African Anthony Reebop Kwaku Baah was the great percussionist from Traffic. He also played with many other famous bands such as the Rolling Stones, Stevie Winwood, Eric Clapton... He and Jonas Hellborg worked for a year on a recording project that was halted by Reebop’s tragic death in 1982. "He said that a lot of his old collaborators were on the tapes we used but would never tell me who and where or when. I must give the man credit for that. He proved it to be totally insignificant who did what. The music became it’s own person - a son of Reebop". (Jonas Hellborg)

Reebop's "old collaborators" on this album could have included Steve Winwood, as well as Chris Wood and Jim Capaldi.

Bonzo Dog Band: Let's Make Up And Be Friendly (3/1972)

Selected discography:
LP / United Artists / UAS 29288 / US
LP / Sunset / SLS 50418 / UK
CD / One Way / S21 17795 / US (Reissue 5/26/1994)
The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band Cornology: CD(3) / EMI / CZ 499-500-501 / UK (Compilation 1992)

Steve's role: Although not credited, Richie Unterberger wrote, in his book Urban Spacemen and Wayfaring Strangers (2000), that Steve contributed to this album. He wrote (on page 119): "Although the Bonzos were immediately at work on solo endeavors, they weren't quite finished with each other. As they owed a few more tracks to their record label before they could be totally free to do as thy willed, they reformed for a contractual obligation album, Let's Make Up and Be Friendly, released in early 1972. In actual fact this was primarily the work of Innes and Stanshall, with contributions from the rest of the band that ranged from extensive to ephemeral. They were aided by several outside musicians, including drummer Hughie Flint (ex-John Mayall), Stevie Winwood, saxophonist Dick Parry (who would play on Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon), and Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye. Unsurprisingly it boasted their heaviest rock sound to date, and wasn't bad, but was only fitfully inspired."

The compilation Cornology includes the entire album along with several others.

Several tracks from this album also appear on the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band compilation CD New Tricks (4/3/2000, Right 010, UK). The liner notes for this compilation refer to contributions by several major performers, including Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, and Paul McCartney. The set consists of previously released tracks, and does not include any of Vivian Stanshall's solo recordings with which Steve was involved. (Thanks to Thore Henry Hansen and Murray Dreyer for assistance, 8/2000.)
